Third project: "The Forge" in Unreal Engine 4

As you can tell in the title, my Third Project involves working in the Unreal Engine 4! We were tasked to create a First Person Shooter Map in UE4 using what we've learnt in our lab sessions, from moving basic objects, importing static meshes and matinee.

Without further ado, I present to you, The Forge

The theme

Set in a fantasy world, the local inhabitants which were of viking descent has been invaded by a foreign yet more technologically advanced force who are here to gather more resources for their planet.

However due to the lack of communication between the two, this had led to an all-out war and boundaries between the two have been created.

Players decide which side they will take and join in on this war to claim the land!

The image on the right shows the spawnpoint of the viking side (the intruder side to be created).

"The Forge"

A screenshot taken in the lower levels of this map, I call it "The Forge Room". This is where the main battle will take place as well as the only spot where the "Mystical Hammer" will spawn. Just a note, all of the static meshes used in this project was taken from the free Infinity Blade library. I really enjoyed making this map not only because it's my first time using UE4 but being able to make full use of my creative imagination was simply amazing. I've always loved the fantasy world and although this was intended to be a FPS map I was able to incorporate that aspect and it turned out well!

Development phase

Above shows my initial BSP phase which portrays the idea I had in mind pre-texturing. I've also have pencil sketches showing the top down perspective on the concept of the level and other ideas which I had (email me if you would like to see those). Assuming you have seen the trailer, you may have noticed the clear contrast between the surface and the underground texturing. This was due to spending most of my time on the concept and ideas for gameplay which led to rushing the underground to hand in this project before the deadline. I rather be honest.

Considering this is my first time making a level let alone using UE4, I can't wait to see where this will take me in a year's time. I heard we're going to be working with Unity next year!
